Cursor is the runaway leader
Cursor tops the ranking at 43.3% visibility – nearly 15 points clear of GitHub Copilot – and is the tool AI names first in 13 of the 24 engine and category views. In coding assistants alone it reaches 75.8%, well ahead of GitHub Copilot (60.6%) and Claude Code (58.1%).
AI recommends coding tools off YouTube
YouTube is the single most-cited domain – 339 citations across 225 unique URLs – and the top source in half of all engine and category slices, including every one of the three categories. AI leans on video walkthroughs over documentation, reviews or forums when it answers vibe coding questions.
Perplexity doesn't follow the crowd
Every engine puts Cursor first except Perplexity, which leads with GitHub Copilot (24% to Cursor's 18.2%) and cites Reddit and Zapier above YouTube. The tool AI recommends depends heavily on which model you ask.

We run 90 prompts through ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews, once a day for 5 days, and record every brand mentioned and every URL cited in the answers – 2 250 responses per industry.
For September 2026 that gave us 2 250 responses in the vibe coding category, collected over 5 days from English-language prompts in a US locale.
Visibility score is the summed mention share of a brand across the responses in a slice. Citations count every time a domain is cited in an answer; unique URLs counts the distinct pages behind those citations.
