Citation analysis:
See which sources AI cites.
Mentions are the outcome. Citations are the mechanism: the pages an engine actually pulled from before it named your brand. Vercite tracks the exact sources ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode cite, so you know which pages to influence, not just which answers to watch.

Every source, per engine
See exactly which pages and domains each engine cited for your brand, and how that differs from engine to engine.
Retrieved vs cited
See which pages an engine pulls in while building its answer, and which of those it actually goes on to cite (not every retrieved page makes the final citation).
What's said on the cited pages
See which brands are mentioned on the pages an engine cites, so you know who else is in the room when your brand comes up.
Citation frequency over time
Track how often a source gets cited for your brand, run after run, not just a single snapshot.
Competitor source overlap
See which sources get cited for competitors but not for you, so you know where to focus outreach or content.
Direct links to the source
Every citation links straight to the page the engine pulled from, so you can open it and check it yourself.
How does citation tracking work?
- 01
Add the prompts your customers actually ask
Write your own, or let Vercite help generate the real questions that matter to your category, not generic keywords.
- 02
Citations are captured automatically
Every tracked run captures the sources the engine cited, alongside the answer itself, with nothing extra to set up.
- 03
Vercite checks retrieval, citation and content
Each source is checked against your own site and the competitors you track, and read for which brands it mentions.
- 04
See which sources move the answer
Compare cited sources across runs and engines to see which pages are actually shaping what's said about you.
Citation tracking use cases
Find your citation gaps
See which sources get cited for your category that don't mention your brand at all.
Prioritize outreach and content
Know exactly which pages to pitch, update, or publish to get cited more often.
Track competitor sources
See where competitors are winning citations, and which sources you could win instead.
Monitor your own pages
See when and how often your own site gets cited directly, not paraphrased by someone else.
Do AI engines agree on which sources to cite?
No. Across 5.31 million citations from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, the five engines agree on only 9% of their most-cited domains, just 23 of 253 pooled top sources. We classified 158,847 unique domains by source type and publisher: each engine pulls from a different slice of the web, with its own bias toward social platforms, retailers, or its own products. There's no single source list to win: you have to win each engine's sources separately.
